We’re very sad to see this big company say that they have been forced to close two of their Dublin shops.
It’ll be a big loss to the capital.
The Financial Times has confirmed that Homebase will close three of its Irish stores, two of which are in Dublin.
There’s plans to close 42 stores meaning that 1,500 jobs would be at risk in the UK and Ireland.
The Dublin stores that will close are Fonthill and Naas Road while the other Irish store that is closing is down in Limerick.
The closures will take place either at the end of 2018 or at the start of 2019, in what has been described as an “extremely challenging” time for the business.
Damian McGloughlin, CEO of Homebase, said, “The reality is we need to continue to take decisive action to address the underperformance of the business and deal with the burden of our cost base.”
He said the decision is “an essential measure for the business to take and will enable us to refocus our operations and rebuild our offer for the years ahead”.
They have two other stores in Dublin, one in Santry and one in Nutgrove Retail Park.
