The James Joyce Lookalike

This week our street photographer Caolan was out and about taking photos of Dublin and had a chance encounter with a man who seemed very familiar….

“Excuse me, sir. Has anyone ever told you that you look like James Joyce?”

“Yes, actually I’m the official James Joyce Lookalike for the James Joyce Centre, I was doing a photo shoot earlier today”

“When did you realise that you looked like James Joyce?”

“I didn’t. I happen to live across the road from the James Joyce Centre, and it was pointed out to the manager of the centre, by someone who knew me, that I looked a bit like the man himself. And so, the manager came and found me in my shop in Temple Bar and asked would I be interested in dressing up like him for an event they were holding. That was about four years ago, and I’ve been looking like James Joyce ever since.”

“Do you enjoy it?”

“Oh, yes. It’s a bit of fun, really. A nice hobby, but sometimes they pay me”

“Enough to give up the day job?”

“No. I’m a hat maker. Hat maker by day, James Joyce by night”
