We couldn’t love her anymore.

Dublin-based jewellery designer, Chupi and her team have created necklaces for each of the 280 women who are in the capital for the Dublin Honours Magdalenes event this week.

They attended a special reception at Áras an Uachtaráin and a gala dinner at the Mansion House in Dublin yesterday as part of the commitments made by the Fine Gael/Labour government five years ago under the Magdalene Restorative Justice scheme.

The initiative aims to bring together women who spent time in the institutions and also to gather views on how the institutions should be remembered by future generations.

In a tweet the designer said, “For we made a necklace for each of the 280 women who experienced the horror of the Magdalene laundries. My brilliant team spent yesterday making, packing and writing cards to these brave women. Thank you for making it possible to honour them.

The event organisers of Dublin Honours Magdalenes said the event gave many of the women the first chance to speak freely to others who were also incarcerated in the launderies.
