Sad News As One Of Dublin’s Most Famous Pubs Closed Its Doors Over The Weekend

Darragh Berry

We’re really sorry that we’re about to make your sad Monday morning even more depressing.

It was announced over the weekend that one of Dublin’s most iconic pubs would close its doors.

The Crimin family of Kiely’s Of Donnybrook announced on social media that Friday, 14th September, would be their last day running the pub.

The bar has been a well known favourite for locals in the area as well as those who want a scoop or two before/after rugby matches in Donnybrook Stadium.

Owners Pat and Mary felt that now was the right time to sell the pub on to someone new and said that their retirement would give their “four wonderful children their shot at living their own lives”.

The post reads:

“The day has come folks the Crimin Family have closed Kielys for the last time. We felt honoured and it was fitting that Paul Howard aka Ross O’Carroll Kelly should launch his book Dancing with the Tzars in the pub last night.

“We want to thank our own staff who reappeared for one night only. Jenny Kate Ellen Sarah Claire and Danielle. A huge thank you to John O’Brien and Shocko the two last men standing who soldiered with us through everything.

“To all our friends our customers from all over the world thank you for your custom and support over the last 30 years. At the start of a new rugby season it will be strange not to be in the thick of it. Thank you also to our suppliers it was a pleasure dealing with you.

“Kielys was our baby for the last 30 years but now it’s time for us to move on. We hope that whoever takes over from us will take good care of you all.”

The closure also came on a very special day for the couple, as they celebrated their 32 year wedding anniversary.

It is certainly the end of a very special era.
