Murder Investigation Launched After Fatal Stabbing Of Toddler In Kimmage

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after the fatal stabbing of a three-year-old boy in Kimmage yesterday evening, the Irish Independent are reporting.

The child was discovered in a room at the Poddle Park apartment by paramedics and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His mother, who is in her 40s, was taken to St. James’ Hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds. 

The State Pathologist is due to carry out an examination of the scene today.

Last night, Gardaí released a statement which read as follows:

“Gardaí in Crumlin are investigating a homicide of an infant child (male) that occurred this evening, Monday July 10 2017 at approximately 7pm in the Poddle Park area of Crumlin.

An adult female in (early 40s) was also injured in the incident and has been taken to St James’ Hospital where her condition is described as serious.

The discovery was made when Gardaí were called to a house in Poddle Park. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The State Pathologist has been notified and the Garda Technical Bureau has been requested to examine the scene. The scene is currently preserved. 

An incident room has been established at Crumlin Garda Station.”
