When it comes to dining in the beautiful city of Barcelona, there’s a lot more to it than tapas, with more extravagant restaurants than you can shake a stick at.

Chances are you won’t get the chance to visit too many eateries over a brief visit, so we picked a handful of some of the finest in the city.

1. Koku Kitchen Ramen

In the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter is where you’ll find this award-winning ramen restaurant. From the atmosphere to the affordable prices — this place is a must-visit while in BCN.

Along with their traditional ramen, they also serve tapas, fresh salads and authentic dumplings.

Koku also has two other restaurants: Buns and the Ramen and Gyoza bar. All delish.

2. Cera 23

Cera 23 is a fusion cuisine restaurant which combines the flavours and cooking traditions of the Mediterranean, Italy and Galicia. Since opening in 2011, they’ve been impressing locals and tourists alike with their food creations.

Created by three friends, the restaurant always has quality and creativity at its forefront, and boy do they deliver. They’re sticklers for fresh and local produce and you can even watch your chefs prepare your food in front of you, as the tables are right beside the open kitchen.

If you go, you have to try their signature blackberry mojitos and we highly recommend the Catalan mushroom risotto with truffles.

3. Els Pescadors

A short trip out of the city, but so worth it. Els Pescadors is one of the best fish restaurants in the whole of Barcelona.

The things they do with simple dishes like prawns and calamari will simply amaze you. Their signature dish is the turbot with black butter, and you simply can’t come here without trying.

Open every day, this place is perfect sanctuary after a full say of sight-seeing.

4. Cal Pep

Like tapas? Like seafood? Then look no further, my friends.

Located on Plaça de les Olles, Cal Pep seafood restaurant offers authentic Mediterranean cuisine incorporating fish, shellfish and fresh produce.

A whole host of varied tastes and flavours can be sampled here and the laid-back atmosphere is perfect for large groups.

The owner, Pep, prides himself on quick and easy preparation, so you’re guaranteed not to be waiting too long for your dish.

5. Uma

For a truly unique dining experience, Uma is the place you should be going.

A clandestine restaurant, Uma isn’t always open, you need to follow them closely online to find your opportunity.

This gem is the brainchild of Iker Erauzkin, who develops dishes for Michelin-starred restaurants all over Barcelona, and he uses Uma as a tasting ground for new, exciting and delicious ideas.

So it’s safe to say that this is the kind of place you need to try.
