seank

Hundreds of people assembled outside the French Embassy in Dublin this morning to observe a minute’s silence for the victims of the Paris attacks.

The solemn moment was observed across Europe this morning at 11am GMT. Dublin’s moment was lead by President Michael D Higgins and French Ambassador Jean-Pierre Thébault.

Following the moment of respectful silence, the crowd joined in singing the French national anthem.

Addressing the crowd, Ambassador Thébault said that 25 nationalities were affected by the vicious terrorist attack on Paris,

We remember in this minute of silence who they were, they represented 25 nationalities and three continents, representing also young and old women and men. The diversity of our nations. We feel as if we have lost members of our family.

A book of condolences can now be signed by the public until 5pm every day this week in the French Embassy at 66 Fitzwilliam Lane.
