Watch These Guys In Arklow Go Crazy After Italia ’90

Ireland still fondly remembers our team’s success at the World Cup in Italy 26 years ago, our best performance in a major championship to date. Or as some of our younger readers remember it, the highlight of the 1990 episode of Reeling In The Years.

In this recently surfaced footage recorded in Arlow, filmed by Peter Dempsey and uploaded by Paud O’Keefe, you get a real sense of the buzz that gripped the nation at the time. As you’ll see in the video above, ‘olé olé olé’ and ‘ooh, ah, Paul McGrath’ were being dispensed quite liberally.

Will there be similar scenes in Ireland this summer? We can only hope.
