Tommy Tiernan And Roddy Doyle Will Team Up For A New Dublin Show This Winter

James Fenton

Tommy Tiernan and Roddy Doyle a both masters at capturing the Irish psyche, albeit through completely different mediums.

While Tiernan is at home performing stage or in front of a camera, Doyle’s genius is mostly found on the pages of novels which have gone on to become classics of Irish modern literature.

You would assume that with Roddy’s way with words and Tommy’s spark of madness they would make very entertaining double act. Well, wonder no more because the pair have announced plans to team up for a charity event this coming November.

Taking place in the stunning surrounds of St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Thursday November 29, the unique event will be a celebration of Doyle’s work and ‘explore his use of satire and comedy to champion outsider voices in Ireland.’ And what better man to quiz him on this than Tommy Tiernan?

All proceeds from the event will go to Fighting Words, an Irish charity which provides mentoring in creative writing to Irish children and teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The evening will be part of the Jonathan Swift Festival 2018 which will take place in multiple venues around the city. More information and details on how to get tickets can be found here.
