If you’re just engaged (congrats!) and are on the hunt for wedding reception, have you considered a swanky Lord and Lady of the Manor-type pile for your reception?
Guaranteed to be luxurious, peaceful and situated on beautiful grounds – you just can't beat a country house. And there's no need to drive deep into the countryside either...
Grand.
1. Rosedale House, Shankill
Rosedale House in Shankill is only bleedin’ gorgeous. Catering for a tiny wedding of 25 up to a big bash of 250, the beautiful Georgian house is a whopper pick for a Dublin wedding.
Available for private hire only, the beauty of Rosedale House is that it’s just for you and your wedding guests – so it’s basically just a big (and posh obvs) house party. And with the surrounding grounds and quaint gardens, and the sea only five-minutes away, you’re sorted for your wedding photos too.
2. Finnstown Castle Hotel
Located just outside Lucan village, leaf-covered Finnstown is the place to go if you want a classy 18th
century period house wedding. Receptions are held in the impressive Library Suite, which is kitted out with everything you need – from a PA system, to a private garden entrance and smoking area, to – of course – the all-important chandeliers. Because what’s a country manor wedding without excessive light fittings?

Other great little additions that took our fancy include the deadly vintage gazebo in the garden and the very Henry the Eighth-ish four-poster bed in the bridal suite.
3. Summerhill House Hotel
This little beauty is located in Enniskerry, only a 30-minute drive from Dublin’s city centre and 5-minutes off the M50. The charming country gaff caters for weddings of 80 to 250, and has a whopping 84 guest bedrooms (“Jays, yeh wouldn’t think it to look at it!”).
A good pick if you’re watching your coppers, the guys will sit down with you to tailor a wedding to suit your budget, and if you want to get married on-site, it’s also fully licensed to hold civil ceremonies.
And our favourite part? The Rainforest Spa, which has an outdoor hot tub and incredible views of the lush Wicklow countryside.
The uh-mazing four-star Carton House Hotel in Maynooth, Co Kildare is a winner if you’re after a bit of luxury for your big day. This place just oozes class – think luxe Baroque interiors, perfectly manicured gardens and panoramic vistas of grounds from the Gold Salon, your dedicated reception space. Even Queen Vicky visited once, and was said to have been overwhelmed by it, so you’ll be in good company!
Just 25-minutes drive from Dublin, the all-rounder also has a golf course, a spa, and as a HSE registered venue, a number of gorgeous rooms for your civil ceremony.
5. Leixlip Manor and Gardens
Located in Leixlip Kildare, this little belter of a venue ticks all the boxes for a classy country house wedding. With its original high-ceilinged Drawing Room, Georgian plasterwork and black and white marble flooring, it’s the kind of venue guests will feel privileged to spend time in.
Again hired on an exclusive basis, it’ll be specially for your party, with the option to book it the day before or day after the wedding too to make the celebrations last a little longer.
And with a Victorian Walled Garden and lush woodland surroundings, your wedding photo backdrop will fit bee-yoo-tifully into your chic, vintage aesthetic.

Dublin is glutted with literary magazines. They’re ten a penny; if today’s penny is actually €15 each. In 2017 Justine Carbery wrote in The Irish Independent “literary journals proved to be constant stars in a fluctuating market. Ireland, with its rich history of independent literary magazines, finds itself in rude health today with many new […]
(and Always) It’s never been more vital to support Queer-Owned Spaces in Dublin. Put your money where your morals are as often as you can. As someone who has worked in hospitality, I know that the people who run our bars, restaurants, and cafés shape the atmosphere more than the decor or the playlist ever […]
