While eating out can be quite expensive, if you play your cards right you can get a great meal without breaking the bank.
A lot of restaurants in town have stiff competition and as a result offer great deals. There are quite a few places where you can get a starter and a main course, and still have change to spare from your €20.
Here are some places where you can get great value.
1. Metro Café – South William Street
If you like classic hearty Irish food, look no further.
The pre-theatre menu at the Metro Café offers two courses for €14.95 and three for €18.95. The mains choices are Irish beef stew, chicken, chorizo and chickpea stew, and bangers and mash. The menu is served 5-7pm.
2. Old Music Shop – North Frederick Street
This cute café/restaurant built out a converted music shop has a great set menu offering two courses for €17.95 and three courses for €21.95.
There’s a varied selection with casserole, Caesar salad, cod goujons, steak, and pizza for mains.
3. La Cave Wine Bar – South Anne Street
With decor evoking old Paris, La Cave is a classic restaurant serving dishes like mussels and confit of duck on its early bird menu, which comes in at €18.50 for two courses.
It’s available every day 5-7pm.
4. Bagots Hutton – Ormond Quay
Bagots Hutton recently opened their new premises on Ormond Quay and have a ‘neighbourhood menu’ which includes two courses and a glass of house wine for €19.50.

As well as great cocktails, Bow Lane also do an early bird, available all day Monday to Wednesday and until 6pm from Thursday to Sunday.
For €19.50 you can get two courses, and three courses for €24.50. You can choose from chicken, hake, a spiced squash, aubergine, lentil & chickpea dahl, or steak with a €4.95 supplement for your main course.
6. Whitefriar Grill – Aungier Street
You’ll probably need to make a booking in order to eat here, but you can get great value with the early bird option of two courses for €19.50 and three for €24.50, with main course options like prosciutto rolled stuffed pork fillet and wild mushroom lasagne.
The menu runs all night Monday to Wednesday, 5-6.30pm on Thursday, and 5-6pm on Friday and Sunday.
There’s no early bird on Saturday.
7. Beeftro – Balfe Street
One for the meat lovers.
For €19.95 you can get a starter and a main, which includes the options of steak, chicken, salmon and cheeseburger. The menu is available every day until 6.45pm.
