A Wetherspoons pub

There will soon be three Wetherspoons pubs in Dublin city.

JD Wetherspoon has confirmed the purchase of HQ Bar and Restaurant in Dublin and is currently deciding when to open the establishment.

The property, located in the Hanover Quay area, was purchased from owner Fulminis Limited for an undisclosed sum.

The new owner is now deciding whether to open the pub immediately or to redevelop the site, subject to planning permission.

Commenting on the purchase, Wetherspoon chairman, Tim Martin, said: “We are delighted to have purchased the HQ Bar and Restaurant and look forward to reopening it as a Wetherspoon.

“It is an excellent property in a superb location and we are confident that it will enjoy great success as a Wetherspoon pub.”

There is currently one Wetherspoons pub in Dublin City, The Silver Penny. A second pub, which will be attached to an 89-bedroom hotel on Camden Street, is currently being developed and is due to open in 2020.

Wetherspoon also has pubs in Blackrock, Blanchardstown, Swords and Cork while sites in Waterford and Galway are set to be redeveloped in the near future.
