An average day in the life of anyone working for Lovin Media Group involves at least 8 hours on a laptop.
And we're not the only ones.
In this day and age, the majority of people have grown completely dependent on digital screens - whether for that 9-5 work day or for sa bhaile on Netflix.
In fact, over 60% of adults now spend six hours or more looking at some sort of device every single day.
And while computers make our lives hella easier, compared to people working on typewriters 100 years ago, computers can cause significant damage - to our eyes in particular.
Ambr Eyewear is a Dublin start-up that has created glasses especially for those who spend long hours in front of a screen, be it for work or leisure.
Hallelujah.
As this dependence on digital grows, there's been an ever increasing amount of people experiencing the symptoms of digital eye strain.
Ever leave the office, step out into the real world and think "wow, my eyes are f*cked"?
Yeah, that's probably 'cos they are, bud.
But fear not, Ambr glasses work by filtering out the harmful blue light that's emitted from these screens, reducing stress on the eye muscles and relieving the symptoms of eye strain. TG.
This blue light has also been shown to impede the production of the sleep-inducing hormone, melatonin.
Hence why we find it so difficult to get to sleep after watching Netflix in bed!
What sets Ambr apart from other screen glasses, however, is how freakin' good they look. Most other versions of these glasses carry a deep orange tint, which can end up making you look like something from Star Trek (as demonstrated below), while Ambr's look like regular specs!
Normal screen glasses VS Ambr Eyewear
Ambr's lenses look totally normal and are ideal for people dependent on accurate colour perception at work, such as graphic designers, photographers and journalists.
There's no difference in colour between wearing and not wearing them while looking at a screen, if anything they make things a bit clearer.
Co-founder Dan Nugent was inspired to address this issue after suffering headaches, bloodshot eyes and sleeplessness during the working week.
"I thought it was a problem I'd just have to deal with but after trying the glasses, all that discomfort vanished."
I've been trialling them for the last while and have noticed a significant difference in how my eyes feel after a day's work.
I've even been popping them on while watching a bitta Netflix in the evenings and find my eyes adjust to darkness immediately after shutting my laptop - unlike before when I would close my eyes but instead of darkness it would remain bright from staring at the screen.
No more lying in the dark struggling to fall asleep - I'm out cold in minutes.
I will never look at a computer screen without wearing these ever, ever again.
Swear.
The glasses are unisex and I've been enjoying looking super cool in my Zeniths around the office.
There are four styles and prices start at €38 - the small price to pay for healthy eyes!
