Bewley’s Oriental Café on Grafton Street has been closed for refurbishments for the last 21 months but is due to reopen next year with seating for 500 people.
According to The Irish Times, the multi-million euro revamp is bringing a number of changes to the listed buildings, such the reopening of the side entrance on Johnson’s Court, a number of open fires coming back into use, the restoration of its Harry Clarke windows, as well as the removal of a wall facing the front door and a mezzanine level at the back of the café.
It’s hoped that these improvements to the café will bring it back to profitability, as it was losing €1.2 million a year when it closed.
