If you, like us, think there's nothing quite so magical as a night at the movies with a big box of popcorn and an oversized soft drink, then this list was made for you.
We've had a bit of a nose around local cinema listings for the next few weeks and found a few vintage offerings that are really worth seeing on the big screen – some cheesy, some critically acclaimed, some hilarious, all brilliant.
Here are our cinematic offerings.
Where: Bull & Castle.
When: 7.30pm, Wednesday, May 25.
Plot: Earth is in danger from villainous alien Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow) and only one man can save every one of us: Flash fuckin' Gordon (Sam J. Jones).
Our thoughts: If you like your movies ridiculously cheesy, this is for you. Plus there's a beer and hot dog deal at the screening for a tenner – winning!
Where: The Sugar Club.
When: 8.30pm, Friday, May 27.
Plot: A human-looking indestructible cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is sent from 2029 to 1984 to 'terminate' a waitress, whose unborn son will lead humanity in a war against the machines, while a soldier from that war is sent to protect her at all costs.
Our thoughts: Before all the lacklustre sequels, prequels and reboots, there was this gem.
Where: Bull & Castle.
When: 7.30pm, Wednesday, May 18.
Plot: A software engineer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) gets his ideas stolen by a rival, but when he tries to obtain evidence of the crime he becomes trapped in a virtual reality world known as the Grid...
Our thoughts: One to check out for the nostalgia factor, check out the dodgy graphics that were considered so groundbreaking back in '82. Plus, Jeff Bridges is always worth watching.
Where: The Lighthouse Cinema.
When: 12pm, Saturday, June 4.
Plot: Follow the life and times of the Corleone crime family, as one young Sicilian immigrant (Robert DeNiro/Marlon Brando) rises to kingpin status, before his empire finds its way into the hands of his youngest son, Michael (Al Pacino).
Our thoughts: One of the best film trilogies of all time (despite a somewhat disappointing final chapter) and the gangster movies that defined a genre, take this rare opportunity to see it on big screen with both hands.
Where: The Sugar Club.
When: 8pm, Sunday, May 22.
Plot: Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is his parents' little angel and an all round cheeky fun-lover. On this particular day he decides to go mitching with his girlfriend and best friend, but his principal and sister are determined to catch the jammy git out.
Our thoughts: Just go. No question.
