James Fenton

Gardaí have confirmed that Pope Francis will embark on a parade through the city centre during his visit to Dublin this Saturday.

Speaking on Today With Miriam on RTÉ Radio One this morning, Assistant Commissioner Pat Leahy said that crowds will be able to see the Pontiff as he heads down O’Connell Street, Westmoreland Street and Dame street, starting at 4.15pm.

He will then head towards Croke Park for his World Meeting Of Families Speech at Croke Park.

Leahy said that he would expect around 100,000 people in the city centre to catch a glimpse of the Pope. A number of roads in the city will be closed throughout the weekend, a list of which you can view here. Leahy added that the M50 will be open on both Saturday and Sunday.
