Here Are 2015’s Trendiest And Most Obscure Baby Names According To The CSO

fiodhna_hm

The CSO recently released a list of the most popular baby names in 2015, and while there are some obvious ones –  sorry Jack, James, Emily and Emma! – there are a few surprises…

The way it breaks down is that the name Jack has retained the top position it every year since 2007, and Emily has retained the number one spot that it first claimed back in 2011. However, the further you go down the list, the easier it is to see some very fast-growing names rising up the ranks.

There were three first time entrants to the top 100 for girls:  Annabelle, Mila and Rosie.  Mila was also the girls’ name rising most in popularity, up 54 places from 142nd place in 2014 to 88th place in 2015.

Also, some parents in Ireland are clearly taking some inspiration from celebrities for names with new names registered in 2015 like Paris, Nelly, Dakota, Kim, Pixie and Sabina.  Whereas names like Barra, Pauric, Zayn, Gus, Romeo and Otis were registered for boys in 2015.
