Dublin Residents Are Being Warned Over This ‘Sellotape Trick’ Used To Check If Your House Is Empty

Make sure you keep an eye out for this “sinister” trick that’s being used by burglars around Dublin at the moment.

A lot of people have expressed concern after a new trend of finding sellotape covering the keyhole of their front doors began popping up.

It’s been particularly common in the North Strand area and residents are sure that it’s a new type of ‘property marking’.

It's thought that if the sellotape isn’t broken through over the space of a few days, burglars can safely assume that no one has been coming in and out of the house and the owners are probably away.

A local resident told the Independent, "It's a tactic they use, they cover the keyhole with clear sellotape to establish if the house is being accessed.

"Two houses were found to have this tape on my street recently in North Strand. This is deeply concerning for residents."

Gardaí are looking into the cause and locals have also requested extra patrols in the area.
