Location Of Ireland’s First Supervised Injection Centre In Dublin To Be Revealed

The proposed location and provider of Ireland's first supervised injection centre is to be known before the end of October.

According to theJournal.ie, the HSE is currently seeking a provider to operate the 18-month pilot service in Dublin. 

The facility will operate via a licence under the Misuse of Drugs (Supervised Injecting Facilities) Act 2017 and aims to:

• Reduce overdoses and drug-related death 
• Reduce risk of needle-transmitted diseases
• Connect vulnerable drug-users with treatment, health and social services 

The facility will be a "clean, safe, healthcare environment where people can inject drugs, obtained elsewhere, under the supervision of trained health professionals”, according to the HSE.
