Alana Laverty

A staggering 1,873kg of cannabis, with an estimated street value of €37.5 million, was seized at Dublin Port yesterday.

According to The Herald, the drugs originated in South Africa before being transported to Dublin by the Kinahan gang.

It is believed that the cannabis was stashed in parts of a mechanical tractor that was searched at the Port as part of an intelligence-led operation by Revenue’s customs service and the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

This is the largest seizure of cannabis on record in Ireland.
