The wait is over. Dublin has finally, finally, been blessed with a venue where you can spend an entire night dishing out nautical puns.
That's not to say that you're going to be greeted by someone in full pirate garb upon entering The Bowery, although we'd be okay with that, this new venue appears to be slightly more sophisticated than that.
The tavern is going for an authentic nautical feel, with the port holes lining the bar coming from Irish Naval auxiliary ship L.E. Setanta, which was decommissioned in 1980.
And the salvage doesn't end there, with the watering hole's floorboards originating in the recently demolished Boland’s Mill in Ringsend, and its wood panelling coming from the former Little Sisters of the Poor convent on The South Circular Road.
If all that sea paraphernalia doesn't float your boat, then perhaps seven nights a week of live music will get your motor running. They'll also have regular top class DJs dispensing tunes in the form of Le Galaxie’s Michael Pope and Today FM’s Kelly-Anne Byrne.
On Friday nights you can expect tunes of the rock 'n’ roll, rockabilly and blue Grass variety, while Saturdays will be all about funk, disco and ska.
But, as we all know, you just can't sing a sea shanty without a healthy supply of rum, thankfully The Bowery has got you covered there. The tavern boasts its very own craft rum aged in smoked barrels, as well as a wide selection of rum-based signature cocktails.
The initial acts to be announced to play venue are Stomptown Brass (Friday, October 28), Abner Brown’s presents very special guests (Saturday, October 30), The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow Halloween Party (Sunday, October 30), and Interskalactic (Saturday, November 26).
While the place opens officially this Halloween Bank Holiday weekend, you'll be able to attend a special sneak peek inside the space tonight, with Nialler9 providing the tunes.
You can find the The Bowery at 196 Rathmines Road Lower.
