A walking tour mightn’t strike you as the best way to spend a day in Dublin. 

Traipsing around with a bunch of tourists wearing plastic mac ponchos?

No, thank you. 

But you’d be surprised by how fantastic some of Dublin’s walking tours actually are. 

This particular one will launch on College Green today — and it sounds feckin’ fantastic. 

Behold, The Perseverance: Fleeing the Famine

Passengers are invited to journey around Ireland during famine years as actors weave together a moving and enlightening journey through Ireland’s darkest hour on board a custom designed bus.

Using journals, letters, news reports, speeches, poems survivors’ stories, Hidden Dublin paint a vivid picture of that historic time. 

Onboard The Perseverence ‘ship’, discover the impact of British rule and the horrors of starvation and pestilence. 

Uncover the voyages overseas, the thrilling rescues and tragic ends. 

Listen to songs of sorrow and escape and witness the resilience of the Irish spirit.

Tours depart every day at 11.15am and 2.15pm from College Green and last approximately two hours. 

Prices from €15 (concession rate) or €25
