Trinity College Will Host The First Irish Quidditch Cup Next Month

James Fenton

Ireland felt a serious sense of FOMO last week when the final draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was made.

We came so close but yet so far with Denmark cruelly putting the final nail in the coffin of our hopes and dreams by hammering us 5-1 at the Aviva Stadium last month.

While our failure to qualify saw Credit Unions breathe a huge sigh of relief, the whole country can rejoice in the fact that the most important sporting tournament of 2018 will take place at Trinity College next month. .

That’s right, the inaugural Irish Quidditch National Cup will be held on January 20 on the grounds of the city centre university.

Featuring three county teams, the winners will have the honour of representing Ireland at the European Quidditch Cup in Germany in April.

For those of haven’t a clue what Quidditch is or how to play, it’s a game made famous by the Harry Potter books and movies. This little explainer video should fill you in.
