UCD Sexual Consent Classes Have Been Cancelled Due To Lack Of Interest

It has been reported that the UCD Students’ Union has cancelled previously planned sexual consent classes, due to a lack of interest.

According to the Irish Independent, approximately 20 students out of 30,000 (0.06% of the entire student population) had expressed interest in the classes, which were first announced in February of last year.

Classes did go ahead in UCD during the second semester of last year, but have now been cancelled due to lack of interest.

Union welfare officer Róisín O’Mara spoke to the Irish Independent about how many students did not feel the need for consent classes.

“It’s a hot topic at the moment, perhaps that is why people don’t want to be seen as needing to be told what consent is. The people who needed to go to classes wouldn’t have gone.”
