Sick of boozing this festive season already?
Yep, us too.
Work parties, the 12 pubs, and general alcohol-infused banter can really take its toll on you over the festive season, believe us, we know. It’s easy to get caught up into doing the same old things with your mates over Christmas, most of which usually involve booze.
But fear not – we have some great suggestions for fun booze-free activities across Dublin.
Pretty much all of these ideas can be enjoyed with your friends, or even that special someone you’ve been dying to catch under some mistletoe. *wink wink nudge nudge*
1. Christmas movies on the big screen
What better time to visit the cinema than when literally ALL of your favourite festive flicks are on? The only accompaniment these childhood classics require is a whopper bag of popcorn to munch on.
The Light House is screening faves such as Love Actually, Jingle All The Way and It’s A Wonderful Life until December 23, with a special NYE showing of The Apartment on December 31.
2. Get your thinking cap on, and try to escape
Nothing says Christmas spirit like fighting over the meaning of a random object when you’re trapped in a room, eh?
Try your sober hand at something different this year by attempting to escape from a locked room in just 60 minutes. Some say team-building, others say relationship-destroying – whatever, we’ll take our chances.
Two of the best in Dublin are Escape Dublin and The Adventure Rooms.
3. Check out a comedy gig
Comedy gigs are the perfect setting for when you want a really fun night out with lots of laughs sans drink. Any awkward silences on a festive date will be soothed over by the sounds of strangers cackling at somebody who isn’t you – perfect.
Try Laughter Lines that has just €5 admission, The International Comedy Club, or Accents Cafe for a free Christmas Eve show.
4. Get yer (ice) skates on
Is it even Christmas if your knees aren’t covered in maroon bruises caused by falling on hard, fake ice? Didn’t think so.
Ice skating is a lovely way to get into a festive mood – everyone is all wrapped up warm and there’s usually Christmas songs playing on the rink.
Glide around The RDS, or combine shopping with skating at Dundrum On Ice.
5. Take a tea-time tour of the city
If you think you’ve done all there is to do in Dublin this winter, think again.
The Vintage Tea Tours are an adorable company doing afternoon tea on board the prettiest double-decker bus you will ever see, all whilst touring the city streets with ’50s jazz in the background.

6. Browse a festive flea market
If you’re anything like us and are still searching for last-minute pressies, the Ha’Penny Flea Market on Christmas Eve is the perfect spot for some carefree perusing.
There’s stalls selling everything from vintage clothes to vinyl records, retro furniture, contemporary crafts, chic jewellery, books, and the like.
Bonus: DJs spinning old vinyl to set the festive mood.
