PICS: This Old-Fashioned Bar Has Just Opened In Stoneybatter – And It’s A Fantastic Concept

One of the most intriguing bars we've seen in awhile has just opened in Stoneybatter – say hello to The Barbers.

The lifelong dream of owner Chris Darby, this old-fashioned spot is half pub, half barbers, with a hair dressing chair in a small room just off the bar where you can have a shave and a hair cut while you sup on a pint.

Seriously. 

With decades of experience both cutting hair and tending bar, Darby wanted to combine these trades for years. Talking to Lovin Dublin, the jovial owner was clearly delighted that this idea had finally become a reality.

This was my dream, but everyone was laughing at me when I told them. They thought I was taking the piss!

Craft beer heads will love this spot, with over 20 behind the counter and plenty more on the way. They're also hoping to have a "serious amount" of good gin and whiskeys.

Like any true barbershop, you're greeted by a candy strip pole at the front. With its '40s era lights, brass fixtures, church pew seating, and old-timey pictures adorning the walls, the bar's interior is wonderfully charming.

Vintage hair dryers have also been converted into lamps, with one in the corner acting as a sit-down stage for acts to perform from. 

Oh and speaking of performers, Mundy and Paddy Casey played here for the opening night yesterday.

It seems that years of working in Whelan's has left Darby well-connected with some of the country's top musicians, he's even expecting Damian Dempsey to drop in over the weekend. 

The owner also revealed they're expecting a couple of huge names to perform in January – we're been sworn to secrecy on who they might be, but we can safely say you should be very excited about it.

The finishing touches are still being put on the bar over the next few days, but they hope to be open tonight from 7.30pm.
