Rugby player Cian Healy has come under fire for a tweet that seemed to make reference to the removal of the Repeal The 8th mural from the Project Arts Centre earlier this week.
Here’s what he said.
Ya ain’t alternative unless you’re in front of a blue wall these days.
Supporters of the work of art by Maser, which sought to provoke conversation about legislation regarding abortion in Ireland, have not taken kindly to the Leinster prop’s comment.
Here are a few of the reactions.
I really hope this isn’t about what I think it’s about. But I suspect it is, which is a great pity. Awful stance to take.

Women are dying because of the 8th Amendment and you’re making jokes.
— Dave Rudden (@d_ruddenwrites) July 26, 2016
So Cian Healy is an ignoramus.

so unbelievably wrong of you

Hey @ProperChurch ‘a prop with a dream to play centre’? Well replace ‘prop’ with ‘woman’ and ‘play centre’ with ‘have basic human rights’.

oh yes, wanting..sorry, needing, better healthcare for women, so ‘alternative!’ ????#repealthe8th

spoken like someone it will never effect. Let’s hope all the women in your life are that lucky.

considering you’re a person that some look up to you should use your position to support the movement instead of belittle it

I keep thinking about that Cian Healy tweet. Must be great to be so far removed from the situation that you can look at it that way, huh ????
— Valerie Loftus (@valerieloftus) July 27, 2016
170,000 women and counting had to find ‘alternatives’ to health care in Ireland. Call it a green wall.

Hopefullyy you will get yourself better informed about #repealthe8th & how women are treated as 2nd class citizens.

However, Healy has just deleted the tweet and apologised for his remarks on Twitter.
Sorry for any offence caused. no political slamming on my part, nor none intended. But cheers for your lovely messages ????

Ignorance on my part to what the “blue wall” was. Merely reacted to seeing it all over my timeline.
