Darkness To Light Is Back – And Here’s All You Need To Know

Pieta House has garnered a crew of familiar Irish faces, and created a powerful short film to get the Irish nation to wake up and register for the annual Darkness Into Light walk, happening on May 6.

Now in its ninth year, DIL will take place in 150 locations worldwide – from Athlone to Ottawa, from Brisbane to Hong Kong, and from Quebec to Reykjavik.The unique event begins in darkness at 4.15am, as thousands of people walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking, symbolising the movement from a dark place to a brighter future. 

Early Bird tickets for Darkness Into Light are available now on their website, priced at €20, with all profits going to Pieta House. This special early bird rate lasts until April 7. 

Pieta House's CEO, Brian Higgins wants to encourage everyone to get involved in the special movement, breaking down stigmas across the world with every step. 

''I want to ask everybody to wake up and join us in support of families and friends affected by suicide and self-harm.

''In Ireland we need to wake up to the shocking statistics around suicide. On average, there are 10 suicides per week in Ireland – and 8 out of those 10 are males. Nobody is immune to suicide so we need to wake up to the fact that society has a huge role to play – we need to tackle this crisis together, in communities, in the workplace, in sports clubs.''

''All of our services are free, but the demand for them is ever-increasing. We all need to wake up to the stigmas that lead people to self-harm and into suicidal crisis and to the doors of Pieta House.''
