A few weeks ago, we went volunteering with Foodcloud to see the great work they do across Ireland.
Chatting to Iseult Ward, one of the founders of Foodcloud, we discovered that they donate two tonnes of food every night to charities, operating 364 days a year, having grown from humble beginnings.
Today we heard the great news that Tesco UK are going to be the first British company to start using the Foodcloud service. According to a report released by Tesco UK they wasted over 55,400 tonnes of food over the past 12 months and about 30,000 tonnes of that were still edible.
Tesco UK will now link up with FoodCloud to trial the FareShare FoodCloud app in the UK, as a way to lessen this food waste greatly.
This is an amazing step in the right direction, and it’s just fantastic to see an Irish enterprise leading the way. Let’s hope the rest of the supermarkets follow suit rapidly!
