5 Brilliant Netflix Documentaries To Watch If You’re Not Leaving The House Today

What did we ever do without Netflix?

With the weather letting us down a wee bit today, we decided we'd give you a list of great documentaries to enjoy while you spend the rest of your Bank Holiday vegging out at home.

Entertaining and educational: what better way to finish a great weekend?

1. The Summit

This documentary explores what went wrong when 11 people died on their way up the infamous K2 mountain, in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

Tough to watch at times, but amazingly shot. The director uses documentary footage with dramatised recreations of the incidents of the 2008 K2 tragedy with impressive results.

2. Chef's Table

This documentary really gets behind the craft of cooking by getting into the kitchens of six of the best chefs in the world.

3. Blackfish

This fascinating documentary examines the life of performing killer whale Tilikum in SeaWorld Orlando, who has caused the deaths of several people while in captivity.

It's a harrowing watch, and will have you on the edge of your seat, showcasing the darker side of animals in captivity.

4. Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer

This documentary details the life of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a highway prostitute who was convicted of killing seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990.

She claimed that her victims had tried to attack while she was working, and that all of the homicides were purely self-defence. Scary enough viewing, but interesting to hear a female serial killer's story.

5. Virunga

Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, Virunga details the story of a National Park in the Congo which is home to the last of the mountain gorillas. A gang of park rangers have to protect the park and animals from rebel attacks, poachers and multinational companies exploring for oil.

It's amazing, but extremely difficult not to get emotionally attached to the gorillas whilst watching.
