Picture the scene – you’re swiping away on Tinder of a Thursday eve. You match with someone, you hit it off …
Next thing you know, you’ve made plans for the following evening, and this person could be The One – it’s all moving so fast, right?
Guarantee a second date by bringing them to one of those atmospheric haunts in Dublin.
1. The Grand Social
Honestly, a fail safe. You also never know what could be on when you go in. Ceilí? Full band? Slam poetry? Who knows. It’s not too upmarket, and not too dive-y – just a casual, quiet haunt for a few scoops.
2. The Bar With No Name
Or ‘No Name Bar’, depending on who you are. Look for the snail sign outside the door. Unrelated, but this place is massively popular with our fave Bray man, Hozier. They have a serious cocktail menu, but you can just get a standard pint if yer feeling less adventurous.
Also, can we talk about the couches? Get cosy, people!
3. Globe Bar
This place is spacious enough if you and your date decide to start throwing shapes to the (very good) tracks the resident DJ plays. It’s also a stone’s throw from the No Name Bar, if you’re planning on having a couple of tipples …
4. Kehoes
Just a good ol’ fashioned Irish style bar – this can be hit and miss because more often than not, the place is JOINTED. But if you can get a spot in the snug out the back, you’re sorted.
The bar staff are SUPER friendly too, so don’t worry about awkward silences.
5. Cassidy’s Bar
Dating is all about playing a game, right?
Cassidy’s takes that notion quite literally, with a wide array of board games available for your playing pleasure. We wouldn’t recommend if you’ve a competitive streak, mind – you should probably let them win first time ’round. It’s the polite thing to do.
6. The Gin Palace
Super lush decor + seriously delicious food + gin = a good first date, if you ask me.
7. PMacs
Very central to town, it’s one flaw is that it’s often first date central. Flip that on its head though – if the date goes horribly wrong, you could potentially pull someone else’s.
Don’t hate the player…
8. The Meeting House
This is a little off the beaten track – just the way we like ‘um. Watch your date get hot under the collar as you order the most delicious Pornstar Martini you’ve ever drank.
9. The Ivy
This place is practically regal – a seriously impressive spot for a date if you’ve got the cash to flash.
10. The Attic
The Attic in Swords is host to the ever popular Chandelier Sessions, (which is free, if you’re pinching pennies). It also has pretty decent deals on food and drink. Score!
Straight in, no kissin’ now, y’hear?
