The President Has Just Signed Same-Sex Marriage Into Our Constitution

seank

President Michael D. Higgins signed the same-sex marriage into the Constitution just yesterday.

The Thirty-fourth Amendment of the Constitution (Marriage Equality) Bill 2015 was passed by the Irish people in last May’s referendum, but only formally became part of the Constitution yesterday.

Now that it’s official, the necessary changes can be made to existing statute law to empower this new Constitutional provision. The Bill will be introduced to Dáil Éireann in September.
