We Tried The E3 Live Blue Algae Latte And Lived To Tell The Tale

katedemolder

We wrote a piece about blue lattés being available in Dublin right now a few weeks ago, and we haven’t really stopped thinking about them since. And with good reason.

Why are they blue?

Would they taste like bubblegum?

How are they so good for you?

Are they made of Smurfs???

Anyway, the thought of it alone was clearly sending us into a downward spiral of distress, so we decided to go out and try the infamous Smurf Latté for ourselves.

The health buffs among you will know that the blue latté is is actually made up of lemon, ginger, agave, almond milk, and E3 live algae, and is one of the best morning drinks you can give yourself. Antioxidants for the win!

The azure hue is due to powdered blue algae – the live activated ingredient that is supposed to give you the kick in the morning we so badly crave.

BEHOLD, the Live Blue Latté from Cracked Nut, Camden Street.

Mad, right?

Coming from a girl who would sell her own mother for a good Matcha Latté, I’m no stranger to iridescently shaded beverages, but this was definitely a site for sore eyes first thing on a Tuesday morning.

The first taste is a pang of ginger, mixed with frothy almond milk, and finally a hint of lemon and honey. Surrounded by the smells of a rich coffee roasters, it tastes weird, but good weird.

Sort of like an unsweetened gingerbread man.

And like any good Dubliner, she says blue until the bitter end.

After one taste, you’re sort of hooked. It’s warming, it’s light and it perks you up real nice.

And hearing about all the good things jam packed in, you’d even consider swapping your morning Americano for one!

Definitely worth a try at least, or potentially swap once a week for one. For the colour, if nothing else.

While we understand that these scream notions, aren’t really in the interest of people who are true coffee fiends, and take a little getting used to – we would definitely reccommend trying one, for the lols if nothing else.

8/10 would get again.

And if lattés aren’t your thing, they also have a Live Blue Cold Pressed Juice, which sounds absolutely whopper.

Live Blue Lattés are €4 and can be picked up at Cracked Nut.
