Scooters Are The Solution To Our Transport Woes – So Why Are They Still Deemed ‘Uncool’?

You may have spotted children on their way to school on scooters. Maybe you even owned one when you were younger.

But would you actually get on one, as an adult?

Here at Lovin Dublin we believe that scooters need to become an accepted mode of transport to get around our glorious capital.

The stigma surrounding these economical, environmentally friendly and downright trendy little portable rockets needs to be removed ASAP – and here's why.

1. They’re way cheaper than the Luas, DART or bus

Who’d be paying for the 46A when you can just hop on your scooter and avoid the traffic and that steep €3.30 fare all in the one go?

Adult scooters can be bought in Ireland for less than €100 – so you're basically making money back after one single month.

2. They can be packed up and brought into the office

No need to lock them up outside on the street and risk having a wheel stolen by the time your lunch break arrives.

Plus you get to show your new swanky set of wheels to all your co-workers and make them mega-jealous...

3. YOU CAN BUY SCOOTERS THAT LIGHT UP IN THE DARK

Forgive us for getting over-excited, but... really.

You can also personalise them with LED wheels, available in all the colours.

4. They're great for the environment

With no fuel to supply you can feel good and look cool at the same time – it’s a win-win situation.

5. You can burn off that bagel you had for breakfast

The average person will burn around 140 calories on a kick scooter on a 15-minute morning commute. And they work wonders in toning the leg muscles as well.

6. They're SO much more safer than bikes

We can’t avoid the truth that cycling in Dublin can be rather dangerous – there are taxis, buses and other cyclists to watch out for.

However, scooters can be used on the paths and cycle lanes alike, meaning you're kept out of harm's way. Plus, it's easier to brake them.

7. All the celebs are using them

If we can't appeal to your sense of reason, we'll appeal to your base instinct of cool.

Christian Bale, Hilary Swank, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Kate Hudson, Tom Brady, Hugh Jackman and Jamie Oliver have all been snapped scooting to the shops. So you have no reason to be embarrassed sporting one of these down Grafton Street now.

8. They’re surprisingly speedy

Save yourself the trouble of waking up half an hour earlier to catch the bus before the rush hour traffic begins.

The top speeds recorded by a kick scooter are about 25km/h, meaning you could cut your 45 minute commute down to around 15.

9. And most importantly... dogs can ride scooters too

Apparently it’s an internet phenomenon. Dogs riding scooters.

And if they can do it, why can't we?
