We all have different taste buds. Some foods we love and some, we hate.
Some foods go great together like a good ham and cheese sandwich or chicken and mash. It’s just a given.
But reddit user Lfluffy has posed the question to the true food professionals – chefs – on what foods work well together that that we wouldn’t normally think of combining.
Don’t knock it before you try it, they say.
We took a look at some of the answers of weird food combos that “actually work”, and well, we don’t quite know how we feel about it…
1. Watermelon, mozzarella and reduced balsamic vinegar
Reddit user Just1morefix says that it works, and you might think why would we put fruit, cheese and vinegar together? Since it was posted it has gained over 580 upvotes and claims that, “it sounds weird as hell but it is delicious.”
2. Fried chicken with syrup and waffles
Do you love sweet and fried food? Well Thrownaway_4_2_day claims that it all works like magic together, although it really doesn’t sound like it. Guess we have to give it a try (if we are that brave).

3. Cinnamon sugar…on pizza
We all love pizza. After the cinnamon challenge did its rounds, not everyone loves cinnamon. Actinglead claims that the two work as an tasty weird food combination saying that, “it has an awesome mix of sweet and and salty”. We really don’t know.
4. Bacon wrapped oreos
Chocolate lovers rejoice! Well, maybe. Greasy, crispy bacon with a soft chocolate centre? Maybe some would be willing to try this one out.
5. Red wine and coke
This is one that is quite common to some. From personal experience you wouldn’t think that it works but it does quite well. Known as Kalimotxo, trumpsnorthernwall says that chefs drink it in the kitchen with cheap cooking wine. It was said to originally get rid of bad or sour wine with equal parts coke and wine on ice.
6. Fish fingers and custard
It’s hard to even imagine without shuddering. It sounds like a kid’s dinner gone wrong.
7. Strawberries with sour cream and brown sugar
Nivzamora says that it works together and others have jumped in with other suggestions with strawberries. Apparently balsamic vinegar and freshly ground black pepper work too. It’s worth a try.
8. Bananas and duck
Some will go ‘quackers’ for this, rr90013 declares.
9. Lobster and popcorn
Would the lobster not make the popcorn soft and soggy? mrbrown1980 says he hasn’t tried it but saw it on TV and the judges, “were amazed”. Who knows.
10. Hot fudge and chicken wings
This one could be interesting for wings lovers.
11. Mayonnaise, white rice, ketchup, bananas, apples, bell pepper and fennel
A lot of random ingredients thrown together. We can’t picture it but maybe someone will be brave enough to give it a try.
12. Orange peel and black pepper
A lot of people tend to throw their orange peels away, but maybe this is a new solution to try out. Just add black pepper.
Well that is what’s suggested, anyway.

13. Peanut butter and pickles
For those who are fans of peanut butter this could go down a real treat. Another suggestion is a peanut butter sandwich dipped in milk. Okay then…
14. A burger dipped in honey
This suggestion comes in by Reluks and those with a sweet tooth may be willing to dip their meaty burger into honey. Maybe. Possibly.
15. Dark chocolate and black pudding
Pudding is a big Irish breakfast essential and who doesn’t love chocolate? Maybe this combination will work? Right?!
Let us know if you give any of these a try…
