2 openers, 2 closures and a high-profile relocation to be aware of in Dublin this week

It’s all go here in hospitality-land

With Summer truly in full swing, the inhabitants of Dublin are experiencing what we would describe as the sleepiest week on record. We are putting it down to the humidity (which we aren't used to) coupled with the rain (which we are). A quieter week than last week, but with some newsy bits nonetheless, so let's get into it shall we?

OPENERS

Little Geno’s, Stephen's Green

Anyone who has taken the closure of Topshop particularly hard, look away, as there is now a cafe and sandwich shop in the front of the flagship shop on Stephen's Green. Serving up a sandwich menu filled with the classics, coffees from Cloud Picker in a super handy location, it's genuinely hard to spot the flaw. The spot is the brainchild of Los Chicanos Taqueria founder and chef Scott Holder, so you just know it's in good hands.

Handsome Burger, South William Street

Looks like the handsome burgers are set to hit Dublin, with one of our eagle-eyed team spotting their distinct signage on a big space beside the Metro Cafe. The smashers are moving from their home in the Wild Atlantic Way and expanding into the big smoke. We haven't heard an opening date or anything but we'll keep you posted when we do!

RELOCATION

Liath, Blackrock

Two Michelin-starred Liath Restaurant is on the lookout for a new home and is asking the public to help 'em figure out where in Dublin to go. Taking to socials, the team led by Damian Grey asked followers to suggest where they should move their restaurant, from "a cosy corner in the heart of the city or a hidden gem off the beaten path, we're open to all suggestions," adding, "as many of you know, our journey has been filled with passion for exquisite dining and creating unforgettable culinary experiences at the Market. Now, we're embarking on a new journey and want YOU to be part of it."

CLOSURES

The Well, Stephen's Green

The Well have announced that they have closed up their massive space on Stephen’s Green. The spot which had three storeys, held a bar, restaurant and nightclub, and was a gigantic space perfect for bigger groups and parties. Known for its drag brunches, The Well was also home to events like Sweatbox, Disco Social, Church and loads more. Serving up Dublin Pizza Company alongside a solid brunch and bar menu. “Our time has come” the team wrote on social media, adding “when we started The Well we got the opportunity to turn our pop up into a longer term reality. We were only supposed to be here a short time and we got much longer with you all than we expected.” Thanking their staff and customers, the team ended on a slightly upbeat note which leaves the question of whether they’ll be popping up in a new home open, “we shall dance again”. The space was home to Dandelion back in the day, we are hopeful that such a big spot in such a central location doesn’t stay vacant for too long.

Goodwins, Capel Street

It's the end of an era for many music lovers in the city, with Goodwins having decided to close their doors after a massive 50 years in business on Capel Street. They posted the news on Facebook, where many customers and past employees took to the comments to express their sadness at the news.
