Dublin loses another nightclub: The Well on Stephen’s Green has closed down

You'll be able to count Dublin nightclubs on one hand soon

The Well have announced that they have closed up their massive space on Stephen's Green. The spot which had three storeys, held a bar, restaurant and nightclub, and was a gigantic space perfect for bigger groups and parties. Known for its drag brunches, The Well was also home to events like Sweatbox, Disco Social, Church and loads more. Serving up Dublin Pizza Company alongside a solid brunch and bar menu.

The number of nightclubs in Dublin and indeed in Ireland is shrinking year on year, with the campaigners Give Us The Night estimating that more than four in five Irish nightclubs have shut down since the Year 2000. There are calls for the government to step in with an initiative to support nightclubs and venues, with the group flagging issues with licensing and insurance industry prices as some of the major concerns.

Proposed late-night licensing laws that would allow nightclubs to open until later hours are yet to be enacted. Despite Minister for Justice Helen McEntee's intention for it to be implemented by this Summer.
