If you’ve ever worked around Aungier Street/George’s Street, you’ll know that the area is anything but short on lunch options.
At the same time, grab-and-go options are a bit more difficult to come by – particularly if you want to avoid the same old places every day, or steer clear from the chain store delis.
Hopefully, though, this place should help.
Füdi opened yesterday on the corner of Aungier Street and Longford Street – beside the Wolf and Spoon café – and we popped in this morning to check it out.
You may have already spotted the outside of the store
The inside looks pretty nice too
While the polished finish may look like the work of a chain, this seems to be an independent outfit – Füdi Ltd was established in January of this year, according to solocheck.ie.
The director is Thomas Ennis, who also runs a number of Spar shops around the city – including the ‘Golden’ Spar on Merrion Row – but this place appears to be an entity all of its own.
There’s a full deli, with a menu to help those of us with choice anxiety who panic when we get to the top of the queue
Sandwiches are €4.50 on their own, so they’re pitching somewhere between the chain store deli and the high-end fancy-pants market here – still, though, it’s always nice to get change out of a fiver after lunch.
And a decent selection of prepackaged food, protein bars, juices and crisps-with-notions
The coffee is pretty decent too – quickly and expertly made by a friendly, chatty barista
And made using a delicious light roast from Matthew Algie.
There’s no sign of a Facebook, Twitter or website just yet. And they’ve also not got their card machine up and running. But as rush jobs go, this is a pretty decent shot…
Worth a shot for lunch?
Absolutely. And if you head there today, let us know what you think!
