This New Superfood Is Going To Change The World… But We’re Not Sure We Want To Taste It

If you thought black pudding was a strange addition to the list of superfoods, then you'll love this one.

According to a major study in India, the answer to the world's food problem could be milk... from cockroaches. 

The team, based in the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, found that the crystals contain four times the energy found in cow’s milk – and not only that, but the nutritional qualities themselves are more balanced.

According to Sanchari Banerjee of the research team:

“The crystals are like a complete food – they have proteins, fats and sugars. If you look into the protein sequences, they have all the essential amino acids."

And in case you're wondering...

Yes, you can indeed 'milk' a cockroach – or at least, the diploptera punctate, which is a species of the creature that produces live young. 

However the team has said that the product on market would more than likely be synthesised – not because of scale, or the difficulty inherent in milking insects.

"Nobody will eat anything made from roaches," explained team member Professor Subramanian Ramaswamy.
