Stay Classy: Here Are 6 Investment Pieces That Will Add Class To A Winter Wardrobe

jo

Here in Ireland, we’re lucky that we have a wardrobe that pretty much keeps us going all year round (give or take a pair of tights and a scarf), but that doesn’t mean that you should have to settle for the same winter basics year-in, year-out.

Take all of your winter favourites and, with the help of these six classic investment pieces, you can class up your look for the new season. We’ve taken inspiration from some of the Italian classics, because when it come to great style Italian materials and style icons still rule supreme. Ready? Let’s get classy.

1. The coat

Your winter coat is, simply put, the most important thing in your winter wardrobe. You will positively live in your coat, morning, noon and night so it’s essential that you invest in one that will streamline whatever you’re wearing, give you a slick silhouette, and guarantee you’re chic from the get go.

In terms of colour, why not take inspiration from Italian fashion house Pucci’s army green number, below? The high street always has some beautiful catwalk-inspired piece, like this recycled wool navy take on the classic by ZARA.

2. The boots

We don’t discriminate – knee high, ankle, Chelsea boots, take a bit of what you fancy, spend a little extra on a really beautiful pair and you will never look back. A great pair will give you a little height (and keep you dry in puddle-season), elongate your legs, they’ll go effortlessly with jeans, dresses, you name it.

We are obsessed with Versace’s boots this season, but when the bank balance doesn’t allow for that kind of indulgence these babies from ASOS do just the trick. Shop them now here.

3. The oversized scarf

With Sophia Loren’s effortless glamour in our minds, we are investing in a beautiful, giant scarf that will keep you cosy and make a statement no matter what you’re wearing.

Try a patterned scarf from Irish designers Electronic Sheep or this COS number. Wrap it over your shoulders with sweater or long sleeved tee and jeans in autumn and when it gets colder add it you your perfect coat for instant chic.

4. The twist dress

Italian style is all about simplicity, a great cut and a flattering finish. With that in mind, one of our favourite, and classiest, staple items this season is the twist dress.

The detail at the front of this dress is super flattering, and it’s a whole outfit in one. Simple, classy and totally winter-worthy. We love this ASOS number.

5. The rollneck

It was chic when Audrey donned a rollneck back in the sixties and it remains one of the best winter items today. It definitely has an Italiano feel to it, and we love how unisex this number is.

Invest in a black, Italian wool blend by Armani and you’ll have it for life; otherwise invest in one in this season’s most popular hue, blush pink.

6. The necklace

Minimal jewellery is eternally stylish. Just a glimmer of gold via this medallion necklace (inspired by the golden jewellery of Venice) from H&M will up your elegance ten-fold.

It’s simple, slick and will take any outfit from normal to noteworthy.
