IDA Warns Government Against Making Ticket Touting Illegal

mariemadden

Ticket touting is one of the most frustrating things ever for music or sports fans, with events regularly selling out in minutes only for tickets to appear on secondary sites at hugely inflated prices.

There have been continued calls for action to be taken against touting but at the moment, the practice is still legal in Ireland.

Now, it has been claimed that IDA Ireland has advised the Government against introducing legislation to make touting illegal as it could have a negative impact on companies like Viagogo and StubHub, who both have offices in Ireland.

According to The Sunday Times, the investment agency “expressed concern” that “restrictive provisions on ticket resale would send a negative signal to these businesses and adversely affect efforts to attract other businesses in the sector to Ireland”.

Viagogo currently employs 200 people at its Limerick call centre.
