Hands up who’s guilty of forever going to the same places on a night out? Pretty sure it’s a good 99.9% of us…
Now though, with new bars poppin’ up all over the city, there’s no excuse not to try somewhere a little bit different.
And the latest opening in the city looks very, very slick…
Opening up in what was formerly Sweeney’s on Dame Lane, a brand new bar has taken its place and promises to shake up Dublin’s bar scene.
Mulligan & Haines is a beautiful blend of old and new, a cabaret burlesque mixed with contemporary touches.
Dublin streets are steeped in literary folklore and the site of this bar is no exception.
Mulligan & Haines creates a unique connection between the past and the present as it draws inspiration from Chapter 10 of Joyces’ Ulysses – a passage in which antagonist Buck Mulligan and his companion Haines entered this once Dublin Bread Company for some tasty grub and proper craic.
And now the historical venue has been given a very stylish makeover… We popped down for a sneak peek last week before it officially opened to the public last night…Â
The folk behind Mulligan & Haines told us what we should expect once this hotspot is in action next week…
“Now completely refurbished, uniting the contemporary with the traditional, Mulligan & Haines aims to offer patrons the very best sandwiches and baked goods in the city in a bid to pay homage to our origins – all washed down with delicious craft beers and cocktails.
“This is a place where stories are shared and enjoyed, music is played, hearts are won and lost and friendships thrive.“
With a focus on gourmet sandwiches (which start in a couple of weeks), live music upstairs and an exclusive bar downstairs, we reckon this place is gonna get off to a flying start.

If it’s good enough for James Joyce…
