We’re all about recycling and doing our bit to help the environment these days.
And now a renowned Dublin hotel has won a massive award at the World Travel Awards.
Sandymount Hotel, which is Dublin’s largest family-run hotel, has been given the lavish title of ‘Europe’s Leading Green Hotel’ for 2017 at the awards ceremony held in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
And the Irish hotel beat off some hard competition to win the title, such as Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo in Cannes and IceHotel in Sweden to name but a few.
So it’s really impressive that a hotel in our very own capital won the award.
In 2013, the Dublin hotel began their quest towards becoming more eco-friendly to make a greener, cleaner hotel by reducing their energy and water consumption and managing its costs.
And now, the Loughran family and the team have reduced, reused and recycled and has 97% of the hotel’s waste recycled and recovered.
It’s no wonder Sandymount Hotel won the prestigious title.
Speaking at the after-party of The World Travel Awards, John and Gerard Loughran the Directors of the hotel said, “What a privilege it is to win the title of Europe’s Leading Green Hotel 2017.Â
“We have invested heavily in installing measures throughout the hotel to make it more environmentally friendly and we are continuously finding ways to progress.”
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry.Â
Sandymount Hotel was recently awarded its 4-stars and had extensive refurbishment, and the family now have plans for adding an additional 19 bedrooms to the hotel by the end of next year.
We cannot wait to see what they do next!
