The nights are set to be much colder for the first few days of 2017.

On Saturday night we’ll witness persistent and heavy rain which will clear southwards. Winds will become moderate to fresh northerly, meaning they’ll turn much colder.

According to Met Éireann, frost will be spotted in the morning, especially in sheltered places with temperatures falling close to zero.

New Year’s Day will be a cold day with good sunshine and scattered showers. That evening, however, will be very cold with a widespread severe frost and overnight lows of 0 to -3°C.

Yikes.

Monday and Tuesday will also be rather cold days, with afternoon temperatures of 4 to 8°C.

Severe frosts are also forecasted for the night over the midland and south where skies should be clearest, the cloudier conditions in the north should reduce the severity of frost there.
