Two men have been arrested in connection with a burglary and assault of an elderly couple in Beaumont, North County Dublin.

The incident occurred at 2pm this Wednesday, when the couple, both in their 80s, had returned home from the bank.

They had just taken out money to pay for a holiday, when a man approached them from their driveway. According to 98FM , the man assaulted the couple, fleeing with their cash.

It’s understood that neither victim was seriously injured but both were badly bruised and left traumatised. Following a day of investigating, Gardaí stopped a car on the Swords Road just yesterday to question suspects.

Two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested.

Investigations are continuing at Clontarf Garda Station where the men are being held. In a follow-up search, Gardaí also recovered a large sum of cash.
