It wouldn’t really be Ireland if we didn’t all rush towards the nearest barbecue at the first hint of sunshine, and tell all our friends to come over RIGHT THIS INSTANT before it starts to rain.
What many of us don’t know, however, is that there’s much more of an art to the humble garden grill than merely incinerating poor unfortunate cuts of meat that had so much more to give.
A little effort goes a long way when it comes to this style of cooking – and here are nine recipes that will help you look absolutely deadly.
1. BBQ sriracha ribs
A barbecue classic, albeit one very few people tend to actually attempt at home. The good news? It’s a lot easier than you ever thought.
2. BBQ chicken kebabs
You thought you knew chicken kebabs, didn’t you?
Think again.
3. Smoked bacon-wrapped onion rings
Everything good in life, packed into a neat little circle.
This is peak food.
4. Bacon and Shrimp – the perfect BBQ combination!
Bacon and shrimp, the ultimate appetiser!
5. Loaded sweet potato skins
The barbecue isn’t all about meat, y’know – and this side will complement your flavours to absolute perfection. It looks fancy, but is in fact dead simple. Lovely.
6. Caramelised brown sugar grilled pineapple
If the name of this dish seems like a bit of a mouthful, just wait until you’ve bitten into one of these things. A flavour explosion.
7. Bacon bourbon chicken kebabs
More bacon. More kebabs. All is well with the world.
8. Mexican grilled corn
Because hey, you still need your five a day, right?
9. Sweet-and-spicy sweet potato wedges
Yes, more sweet potato – because let’s face it, they’re amazing and we don’t know how we got through life without them.
These wedges are absolutely banging with flavour, which is necessary to compete with the other taste sensations you’ll have on show.
10. Beer-marinated lamb skewers with chimichurri sauce
Well we had to go out with a bang, didn’t we?
Give me one part of this dish’s name that doesn’t sound absolutely incredible. Go on. I dare you.
