There Will Be A FREE Riverdance Performance Outside The Gaiety Theatre This Week

If you love whirling cailíní and men in ridiculously loose shirts with heaving chests, we've got some wonderful news for you: Riverdance will be a holding a 12-hour performance in front of The Gaiety Theatre this Thursday, June 21.

After the success of last year's Riverdanceathon in raising money for cystic fibrosis, the troupe has decided to repeat this test of dancing endurance to help raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI), which advocates for, assists and supports those affected by dementia.

Take a look at Riverdanceathon 2017

Kicking off at 10am and finishing at 10pm on South King Street, the family-friendly free event will feature featuring the Riverdance cast and 580 Irish dancers from dance schools around Ireland.

The young dancers will be joined throughout the day by members of the Riverdance cast to pass on tips and encouragement. A countdown clock will tick away the minutes as the day’s activities take place and there will be special Riverdance performances at 10am, 1pm and finally at 10pm. This final appearance happens once the curtain falls in the theatre and the Riverdance cast come to the front of the Gaiety to perform the finale once again bringing the Riverdanceathon to a close.

Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan, the original stage spectacular Riverdance has travelled the world for 23 years and performed more 11,500 times to a live audience of more than 25 million people throughout 47 countries across six continents.

The Riverdance summer season at the Gaiety Theatre is now on and runs until September 9, with tickets available on www.Ticketmaster.ie/Riverdance or in person at the Gaiety Theatre Box Office.

Anyone wishing to donate to Riverdanceathon 2018 can contribute on the day in person or donate online to ASI HERE.
