Are you the kind of person who really cares about where their food comes from? If so, we have just the festival for you.
The Festival Of Food at Airfield Estate kicks off on Thursday, September 7 and it's all about food literacy.
What does that mean exactly? It's understanding where our food comes from and how the food choices we make impact people, planet and pocket.
Due to popular demand, the events on Thursday (the Food Literacy: Unearthing The Knowledge Gap conference and No Waste dining experience) and Friday (school trip day), which take place in traditional Tee Pee tents, are already sold out — but the free festival is wide open to the public on Saturday and Sunday!
Here's what you can expect...
There are plenty of other things on offer to keep you distracted during the festival.
Airfield's goal is to inspire people to reconnect with the land and the food it produces and the Festival of Food focuses on bringing that mission to life through hands on workshops, foraging, food trails, meeting food producers and tasting their produce.
You'll be able to participate in workshops about Bee Keeping with Leinster Honey, Featherbed Ice Cream, Corleggy Cheese, Green Earth Organics, Andrei Sirbu latte art and much more.
Kids are more than welcome at the festival and there's plenty to keep them occupied, like the kids craft hub, foraging walks, face painting and even chicken feeding (pretty sure grown adults might get a kick out of that one too).
You'll find a wide range of fresh produce to choose from at stalls around the festival.
Food lovers will be like kids in a candy school at this event, with more than 40 food producers setting up shop with their wares, including Roundstone Bakery, Simons Fish, This is Seaweed, Magic Mayan Chocolate, Cloonagh Smokin Soul, Lala Poutine, McCabe's Coffee, Dave's Wood Fired Pizza, Tremendous Truffles, Wicked Food, Chop It, Cubslough Farm and many more.
It'd be difficult not to find something you'd enjoy in that bunch.
Would you believe that Airfield has its own food rules, they call them GLAS: Go with the seasons, Local for produce, Avoid food waste, and Sustainably produced ingredients.
You will find out all about seasonal food, how they produce and use it, meet their local producers including their own farmers and gardeners and learn how to minimise food waste.
