Another Car-Free Day Is Taking Place In Town This Weekend

James Fenton

This summer, Dubliners got a taster of what a pedestrianised version of College Green would look like when the area was closed to traffic over three Sundays throughout July and August.

If you made it into town on those days, you’ll know what it’s all about. Despite some teething issues, large crowds were drawn to the area on each day and family-friendly entertainment was provided by Dublin City Council. If you missed out, fear not because this Sunday it’s all set to happen again.

Car Free Day will take place as part of European Mobility Week, an initiative that aims to demonstrate the environmental and health benefits of a more sustainable urban mobility culture. On the day, visitors will witness plenty of fun activities such as e-bike and cargo bike demos and a live BMX stunt show. Sounds slightly more exhilarating than your average jaunt into the city, to be fair.

Car Free Day takes place this Sunday September 22 and you can find out more information here.
