This Sandyford Bar Serves Up Some Unreal Pub Grub and Quirky Cocktails

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

Pub grub is an all time favourite of mine. You get a big meal and you’re totally full for the entire day afterwards. I tend to crave it most on the weekends, so when I felt hunger strike on Saturday, I decided to visit a bar that has recently opened in Sandyford.

Sandyford House is a spacious gastropub that has a varied menu and a little something for everyone.

When I walked in, I was greeted instantly by friendly staff and seated in a booth. The bar in the centre of the venue caught my attention immediately. Beautifully designed with copper shelves over-head, it showcased the wide range of spirits and wines available to order. From there, I couldn’t resist taking a peak at their cocktail menu.

I could tell that a lot of thought, time and effort had been put into this menu as it included unusual mixes and flavours. I decided to try the “Ultra Violet” which was a prosecco based cocktail. It tasted exactly like parma violet sweets. I’m prefer bitter drinks to sweet so this wasn’t my dream cocktail but I know anyone with a sweet tooth would have been swooning.

Moving to the food, I had arrived just in time to sample the lunch menu. I’m one of those losers who get’s so excited about going to a new place that I Google the menu before my visit. I had seen the Chicken Pretzel and it sounded like the dreaaammm

Sadly, they had run out of the Chicken Pretzel so I opted for my second choice which was a steak sandwich. It was jam packed with mushrooms and onions and came with thick cut chips, which I adored. The garlic butter on the bread added to the overall flavour of the sambo and it really did hit the spot.

For dessert I went for the cheesecake and oh my goodness

Cheesecake is my go to dessert and I have to say this is one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The salted caramel, chocolate and honeycomb flavours were to die for, I was literally scraping the crumbs off the plate. This was by far my favourite on the day and I will definitely be going back there for the cheesecake alone. (Like, I swear, it’s class)

Sandyford House serve lunch from 12-3pm every day.
